Harvest 2024

As the last must of the year enters the vats at Maison Gosset, it’s time to look back at how this year’s harvest unfolded. The year 2024, marked by unpredictable weather conditions, began with a mild but excessively wet winter, followed by a cool spring with devastating frosts in April, affecting nearly 10% of the vineyard, particularly in the Côte des Bar. Spring and early summer were chaotic, with heavy rains and storms delaying the blooming process and causing significant damage. Mildew appeared as early as April, creating ongoing pressure, but it was kept under control thanks to heightened vigilance. Hail and periods of intense heat also inflicted additional damage.

The harvest, which began around September 7th, showed particularly varied results. We started with the Meuniers of Cumières on September 13th and ended the harvest with the Chardonnays of Cuis.
However, despite the yield disparities between Aube, Aisne, and Marne, Maison Gosset achieved an honorable average yield of 8,000 kg/ha. Despite this lower quantity, the quality of the musts looks exceptional.

This year, the three grape varieties offer a remarkable balance between sugar and acidity, with a high malic acid content, a characteristic indicating potentially high quality for Gosset Champagnes.
On the aromatic front, the Pinots are generous, displaying enticing red fruit notes, while the Chardonnays reveal fruity citrus aromas. All the grape varieties exhibit a beautiful tension on the palate.

The House is pleased with this harvest, despite the significant yield disparities observed. Now, the focus turns to the excitement in the winery throughout October, as the first vinifications are underway. However, it’s still too early to know if 2024 will be declared a vintage year.
